My Digitally Lit Journey

Hi everyone! My name is Fifi Chen and I have been a part of Digitally Lit for about 4 months now. Starting in March 2024, one day I suddenly came across Digitally Lit on Instagram. As a book and writer lover, I decided to check out the account since it looked super interesting and new. After reading a couple of posts, I adored this non-profit organization and wanted to be a part of it to encourage other youth to read books written by Atlantic authors.

So, I ended up applying for this in hopes of gaining new skills and doing something I genuinely liked. Fortunately, I got selected a voluntary position as a Literacy Champion! Basically, you receive free books every month and your job are to read it, then write a book review about it to share with others! Not only do you get to have a taste of different authors writing, but you also get to know other youth from the Atlantic provinces doing the same thing as you. There are even other people from my province which is super interesting!

This voluntary position was super enjoyable, it was flexible meaning you could write the review pretty much with no restrictions (if it is nice), you get lots of time to finish reading your book in case if you are not a very fast reader, and most importantly, you get to have fun!

After volunteering for about two months, I was offered a paying position as a Youth Ambassador! It is a little similar as a Literacy Champion, except you must track the number of hours you work, promote on social media the books you receive and the authors including getting paid too! For a minimum six hours of work, you receive 100$ each month, which is a good amount considering this occupation super fun and easy for those who truly enjoy writing as well as reading!

Personally, I strongly recommend being a part of Digitally Lit because you will get to know many others with their different perspectives on the same books you read, you get more experience on social media and how to promote, you even get notified by others if there are any special book events happening or if some Atlantic authors are visiting provinces where you live in which would be very cool! It is a great adventure, and you will learn so much!
